[Yuuma Tadashi, "Shusui": Seeing the scenery of the soul between action and stillness]
At first glance, it is the overwhelming contrast of colors that captures our hearts. Bright yellow and blazing red from the trees in the foreground. Yuma's unique and powerful brushwork makes it seem as if the autumn leaves themselves are dancing as flames, enjoying the joy of life. This expression of movement has a powerful power that seems to awaken the vitality of the viewer.
However, on the other hand, deep in the center of the work lies the cold and tranquil water as if calming the violent autumn leaves. At the same time as autumn deepens, the surface of the water has an unearthly silence. This expression of stillness calms our minds and invites us to deep contemplation.
The essence of this work lies in the expression of "light" that connects the two. The slightly backlit light penetrates the autumn leaves, sparkles the water, and fills the forest in the back with a mysterious white mist. With this light, it is as if the "sign" and "soul" of nature itself felt by Mr. Yuma at that moment were depicted, going beyond the simple description of scenery.
"Shusui" is a rare work that harmonizes intensity and tranquility, light and shadow, and even the anticipation of life and death on one screen. When we stand in front of it, we will be struck by the mystery of nature and listen to our own inner voice.
