(Print artist)
[Tamiji Kitagawa “Prints” - Ode to the Wind and Life of Mexico -]
We are pleased to introduce rare prints by Tamiji Kitagawa (1894-1989), a solitary painter who fused the passion of Mexico with the spirit of Japan. One of only 120 pieces produced, this work, numbered 55, is a gem that encapsulates the artist's warm gaze and endless love for life.
Powerful expression imbued with the soul of Mexico
Minji Kitagawa moved to the United States in his twenties and later spent approximately 15 years working in Mexico. There, he interacted with artists such as Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo amid the fervor of the mural movement following the revolution. A consistent theme in his works is his empathy for Mexico's indigenous peoples and ordinary citizens, as well as his celebration of the resilient spirit of life. The image of a plump woman tenderly holding a bird and fruit in this work is a perfect symbol of that. The thick, dynamic contour lines and bold deformation are major characteristics of Kitagawa's work, leaving a strong impression on the viewer.
The depth of monochrome and the story that resonates in the space
Despite its small size of 9.5 x 12 cm, the painting exudes a rich narrative. As a monochrome print, the strength of the artist's lines and the form of each motif stand out, stimulating the imagination. The rhythmic curves engraved in the background evoke the buzz of life or the cheerful music of Mexico, adding depth to the work.
Rarity and the Joy of Collecting
Limited to 120 copies, this rare work not only has artistic value but also gives you a deep sense of joy in owning it. Its refined size, which is not too assertive, blends naturally into any space, such as a study, living room, or bedroom, bringing artistic color and intellectual stimulation to your daily life.
The world of Kitagawa Minji, where the vitality nurtured by the Mexican land and the delicate sensibility of a Japanese artist have beautifully come together. We invite you to experience this precious piece in your own hands.
