Katashi Koyama - Brief Biography
• 1934: Born in Kumamoto Prefecture.
• 1961: Studied under Seison Maeda, a master of Japanese painting. Under his teacher's strict guidance, he honed his solid drawing skills and refined sense of color.
• Activities at the Inten Exhibition: First accepted into the 46th Reorganized Inten Exhibition. Since then, he has been active as a prominent figure in the Inten Exhibition, winning the Japan Art Institute Award (Taikan Award) twice.
• Unique Painting Style: He works on a wide range of subjects, from grand historical paintings on the history of Christianity in Amakusa to pure and serene landscapes of Mount Fuji, and his dignified style is highly regarded.
• 1999: Appointed as a member of the Japan Art Academy.
• Currently: As a member and director of the Japan Art Institute, he makes a significant contribution to the popularization and development of contemporary Japanese painting.
